Rabbi Yehoshua Sova, Chief Rabbi

Rabbi Yehoshua Sova brings an exciting, growth-oriented and energetic approach to The Shaare Ezra Sephardic Congregation. Rabbi Sova has been a Community Rabbi in Miami since 2013 and an active member of the Miami Beach community since 2008. He was Rebbe at Yeshiva Toras Emes and was previously the Assistant Rosh Kollel at The Miami Kollel Boker where he was actively involved in preparing and delivering classes to community members. Before his arrival in Miami, Rabbi Sova was a Community Rabbi in Denver, Colorado and Dallas, Texas.

 

He has been dedicated to working with others to facilitate mutual growth and a deeper appreciation for personal and spiritual achievement. He has experience and success working with adults and children, with diverse backgrounds, interests and knowledge bases. He focuses on creating a partnership with each individual to ensure a customized approach to personal advancement. Rabbi Sova tailors his lectures and classes to appeal to the specific audience with backgrounds ranging from strong Yeshiva education to those having their initial exposure to Judaism.

Rabbi Sova, together with his wife Chaya Leah, an Ultrasound Technologist, have successfully developed and implemented learning programs which meet the needs of the community and as a result have witnessed increasing participation at classes, events and Minyanim as well as increased interest on the part of the participants. Rabbi Sova has a strong foundation in Gemara and Halacha and utilizes his technical knowledge together with his ability to genuinely connect with others, to guide families and individuals through various aspects of Jewish Law, life cycle events and familial/social situations.

Rabbi Sova’s warm and welcoming approach encourages children and adults to seek out his counsel and advice. His home is open to all and he is comfortable engaging individuals on a wide array of topics. He holds a Master’s degree from Bellevue University and has Smicha from Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ.

Mr Aaron Setton
President - Gabbay

Aaron Setton was born in Argentina and at the age of 14 moved to Israel where he attended Or Sameach Yeshiva.

 

He married Natalia Mezrahi at 20 years old and moved to South Florida. He then worked part-time giving classes for children in shul and helping to prepare boys for Bar mitzvah, later becoming the Baal Koreh of Shaare Ezra.

 

At almost 30 years old, he opened a Beit Midrash, Keter Sion, which later merged with Shaare Ezra.

 

He now serves as the Gabbay and President of the board of Shaare Ezra Sephardic Congregation.

Our Staff

Rabbi Yitzchak Shifman,
Assistant Rabbi

Rabbi Yitzchak Shifman was born and raised in Miami Beach. He studied primarily in Yeshiva at Talmudic University under the leadership of Harav Hagaon Rav Yochanan Zweig Shlita.

 

Rabbi Shifman has been working in Shaare Ezra to help develop programming to encourage growth amongst the people in all areas of Torah.

 

Rabbi Shifman thoroughly enjoys the wonderful passion and excitement of the people in the Shul and relishes the opportunity to help contribute. He can be reached at yshifman1@gmail.com

Mr Ely Chocron
Assistant Gabbay

From an economic and financial background, and going through three continents, Ely grabbed the opportunity to join the Shaare Ezra team and help with all the administrative support a congregation needs, from bookkeeping to marketing, from logistics to communications.

 

All with one goal in mind: dedication to serve our beautiful community.
